For a long time, the largest screen size you could get was a 15-inch laptop, but nowadays there is a much larger market for 17-inch screens on laptops, and Black Friday is the perfect time to pick one up. That said, there are already a lot of great early Black Friday deals you can take advantage of from many of the best laptop brands, such as LG, Asus, and HP. That’s why we’ve gone out and collected some of our favorites for you below at various price points and specs to so you can pick what works the best for you.
HP 17.3-inch FHD Laptop — $400 $630 37% off
It’s pretty fair to find a budget-oriented 17-inch laptop, but this option from HP is going for the discount price of $400 instead of the usual $630. It comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 7430U processor, which is a great mid-range option that will easily handle most tasks you throw at it. The 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage are also very reasonable for this price point.
ASUS Vivobook 17X — $600 $900 33% off
When we originally reviewed the Asus Vivobook 17X, our computing writer Mark Coppock said “I don’t recommend the review unit, but the Vivobook 17X is worth a look at $730.” Well, luckily, we have a different configuration with a better AMD Ryzen 7 7730U and a $600 instead of $900, making it an excellent option.
LG gram 17 — $1,300 $1,700 24% off
The LG Gram 17 is probably one of the thinnest and most lightweight 17-inch laptops you’re going to find, and even our computer writer Mark Coppock felt that “The LG Gram 17 is one of the best 17-inch laptops you can buy.” This configuration comes with an Intel Core i7, a whopping 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, all with a substantial $400 discount.
GIGABYTE AORUS 17 — $1,800 $2,000 10% off
It’s probably no surprise to see a gaming laptop on this list, especially since a lot of larger-screen laptops tend to be for gaming. Luckily, this GIGABYTE AORUS 17 has a solid $200 discount and comes with an Intel Ultra 7 155H, 16Gb of RAM, and an RTX 4070 mobile, which is roughly equivalent to a desktop RTX 4060 in power.
ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 — $3,600 $3,700 3% off
While you only get a $100 discount with the Asus Rog Strix Scar 17, it is an excellent gaming laptop, with our lead report Jacob Roach saying that “The Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 is a solid gaming laptop, buoyed by the excellent AMD processor inside.” This configuration comes with an AMD Ryzen 9 X3D, 32GB of RAM, 2TB of memory, and mobile RTX 4090.
How to Choose a 17-Inch Laptop on Black Friday
When it comes down to it, the biggest question that comes with any 17-inch laptop is what sort of usage you are going to have. If you’re just looking for a larger screen for watching content, browsing the web, and productivity, then you can get away with pretty much any 17-inch laptop, especially since most of them tend to have reasonably good specs. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a gaming laptop, then you’ll want to prioritize something with a good GPU, since larger screens tend to come with 2K resolutions, and you’ll need a beefier GPU to handle that.
Speaking of GPUs, if you do want to go for a gaming option, it’s worth noting that GPUs for laptops tend to be mobile versions that are a lot less powerful since they have to fit in a smaller space, meaning they have to be throttled down to not overheat. Another thing worth noting is that you really should be aiming for a minimum of 8GB for any laptop and 16GB if you want to go for a gaming version. Storage can vary based on your needs, but you can always check out these external hard drive deals or expand your internal storage with these SSD deals.
